This collection of maps compares wildfire activity in 2010 and 2020 across the contiguous lower 48 United States with winter and spring precipitation by county in the months prior to the fire season.  The upper two maps show the actual precipitation totals while the lower two maps illustrate the deviation from the average 21st century precipitation totals.  Fire symbology was slightly enhanced to be more easily interpreted.  Notice 2020 wildfire activity is increased following the drier winter and spring months.  Data for these maps was provided by the National Interagency Fire Center and The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA).
